Business Case
Pearson Vue had an aging website that needed to be redesigned and re-devolved. They looked at Moss 2007 because of its capabilities as a CMS and approached Creative SharePoint to take their new site design and develop it. From the onset, one of the biggest requirements was for the site to meet AA compliancy as well as provide flexibility at multiple levels. Some of the custom requirements from Pearson Vue included a custom FAQ section with ability to filter based on conditions, aggregated rollups of information and custom navigation options allowing both inheritance of menu items as well as custom menu options on each site.
Business Solution
In order meet their requirements, Creative SharePoint took the design and broke down each element of the design and tested it from the ground up for compliancy. To ensure that we were able provide a compliant platform, Standard SharePoint web parts needed to be kept to a minimum and web part zones needed to be compliant. Using control adapters we were able to ensure that all web part zones where rendered compliant which meant we just needed to make sure that all web parts placed in these remained so.
After planning site columns and content types, a custom master page and multiple page layouts where developed to meet Pearson Vue’s requirements. Along with this custom control adapters where developed to use a brute force approach to ensure compliancy where we were left with no other option. On all the page layouts, rich editing controls where placed to ensure that maintenance of the site was as simple as possible. We provided the ability to both change structural images as well as the ability in the future to overwrite styles on different sites.
The FAQ was built using a custom list with a specially built transformation file. The most complicated part of the transformation was ability to perform 2 level grouping while still giving the ability to filter.
The aggregated rollups also made use of transformation files to ensure that they were displayed in a compliant way and give the custom styles they required.
Lastly the custom current navigation used both a CSS and data source technique to give the flexibility that was required. A custom navigation source was added and based on this navigation source we were then able to use CSS to achieve the requirements.
All the elements of the project where delivered as a solution and as a result the project was deployed onto the hosting environment with-in a day.
